It developed a low oil pressure problem. I checked it with a gauge and it was out of spec at idle only (should be 17psig or higher and I measured about 12 psig). Above idle it met spec at the higher rpm ratings. The DPF pressure sensor is a pretty common failure and does cause the kind of issues you have seen. It is possible that the DPF has become pretty blocked up as without the pressure sensor to tell the ECU how much back pressure is being generated by the DPF it's not possible to correctly regenerate it. Thats why when you see the oil pressure warning light go on, you have to stop driving, because the pressure could be too high. The oil pressure sensor itself has been known to fail more often on the Audi A6. Use a wrench to remove the sensor, then connect the new sensor in place. Ive also use a manual oil pressure gauge and there is pressure ranging from about 28 psi at idle up to 60 psi at 3500 rpm.
